HAILAKANDI: In a bid to enhance early-stage pest protection and boost productivity in paddy cultivation, ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Hailakandi, in collaboration with IFFCO, organized a hands-on training-cum-method demonstration programme on Seedling Root Dip Treatment. The programme was conducted on August 4 at KVK’s Demonstration-cum-Research Farm and witnessed active participation from local farmers.
Seedling root dip treatment is a scientifically proven method that involves dipping uprooted rice seedlings in a solution for 3–4 hours before transplanting. The solution used in the demonstration consisted of Imidacloprid 17.8% SL (2 ml per litre) and Nano-DAP (5 ml per litre), a combination that provides systemic protection against early-season insect pests while simultaneously enhancing nutrient uptake. The technique has shown promise in improving root establishment, boosting tillering, and ultimately leading to better yields.
The training session was led by Dr. Saurabh Sarma, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection), under the guidance of Dr. Yogisharadhya R., Senior Scientist and Head of ICAR–KVK Hailakandi. Alaur Rahman Laskar from IFFCO also addressed the gathering and interacted with farmers about the practical benefits of the treatment.
KVK officials Angam Baleshwor Singh (SMS, Fisheries) and Raja Ram Bunker (SMS, Horticulture) were present during the session. Farmers including Abdul Haque Borbhiya, Abdul Kalam Laskar, and Faizur Rahman Laskar were among the 39 attendees who benefited from the demonstration and technical insights.
The initiative reflects the commitment of KVK and IFFCO to promote sustainable and science-backed agricultural practices in the region, empowering farmers with techniques that are both cost-effective and yield-enhancing.
