SILCHAR: The Shri Shri Radhamadhab Jiu Akhra in Bilpar, Silchar, is all set to host a five-day Jhulan Yatra Utsav from Tuesday, August 5, to Saturday, August 9. This annual spiritual celebration will feature an array of devotional performances, including kirtans, sangeetalekhya (musical storytelling), dance dramas, and traditional Jhulan songs.
According to Angshu Kumar Roy, sevait (caretaker) of the Akhra, the Jhulan Yatra has been observed ever since the establishment of the Akhra in 1243 of the Bengali calendar (1836 AD). “The tradition has continued for generations and remains one of the most significant religious observations of our Akhra,” he said.
As part of the celebrations, the deities of Radha-Madhab will be adorned in themed attires on each day of the festival. Each day of the festival will feature cultural performances by noted local artists and institutions. On the opening day, Jhulan songs will be rendered by Manoranjan Malakar and his team. Wednesday will see a sangeetalekhya presented by Uttamasha Art Foundation, featuring Pradip Acharjee and fellow performers.
Thursday’s programme includes a kirtanangik performance by Manimala Dance School, led by Tathagata Das and team, while Friday will witness a cultural evening presented by Sai Sangeetalay with Megha Das and other artists.
The concluding day on Saturday will feature a special kirtanangik dance presentation by Pushpangan Sangeet Kalakendra, with Utpal Biswas and accompanying performers. Each evening will culminate in devotional music and dance performances celebrating the spirit of Jhulan Yatra.
